This Ordinance regulates the public use of above-ground, standing or flowing waters in accordance with the Bremen Water Act. As a rule, bathing, swimming and diving are prohibited in standing bodies of water, with the exception of designated bathing lakes. In flowing waters, bathing, swimming, diving and ice sports are generally permitted, but at personal own risk; while there are specific prohibited zones. The ordinance also contains regulations on the use of motorized vehicles on bodies of water. Furthermore, provisions are laid down to protect the waters and to maintain safety and order. The Ordinance consists of 9 Articles and among others, provides for public use of standing waters and flowing waters; dealing with motorized vehicles on bodies of water; bathing waters and bath seasons; water authorities; prohibitions and exemptions; and administrative offences.
