The objectives of the regulations are: (i) to introduce a system to ensure an appropriate level of safety for human, animal, plant and environment health in the transport, handling and consumption of genetically modified organisms and their products; (ii) to develop controls for the introduction, circulation, use and consumption of genetically modified organisms or their products; (iii) and to preserve the diversity of local genetic resources from the risks of introduction and release of genetically modified organisms into the environment.
Relevant to biodiversity conservation and environmental protection generally; and to trade, import, export, customs, etc.
