The purpose of this Act is to ensure the security of fishery products and contribute to the improvement of their quality by providing the matters necessary for the efficient sanitary management and inspection of fishery products. The Act applies to fishery products, including marine animals, plants, and processed products, and provides for inspections to protect human health and meet domestic and international sanitary requirements.
The Act regulates the inspection of imported fishery products, designated sea areas, and production and processing facilities. It establishes standards concerning quality, size, hazardous substances, pests, and sanitary controls; provides for the designation of inspection agencies and inspectors; and governs inspection procedures, certification, reinspection, and enforcement measures. The Act also authorizes investigations, corrective orders, suspension of operations, and cancellation of registrations, and establishes penalties for offences.
