The Act applies to water supply and the administration and planning thereof. The local council shall grant permission for annual extraction of ground water not exceeding 3 000 cubic meters and used for irrigation of agricultural crops. It shall also grant permission of water supply for small rural settlements with an annual extraction of groundwater not exceeding 6 000 cubic meters. Abstraction of drinking water through desalination of sea water (including export thereof) shall also be subject to permission from the Minister of Environment. Public water supply systems are subject to authorization for their expropriation, and may be applicable to proprietary rights in land, buildings and facilities (i.e. for carrying out test drilling and test pumping and use of surface water). Greenland: Drilling for water shall, within 3 months from the completion of drilling, notify the Geological Survey with specific information of location and eventual chemical and microbiological findings, together with the result of the test pumping conducted and samples of the drilled soil.
