السفر إلى أراض بكر نسبيا، تبشر السائح بفرصة ملاحظة الحياة البرية غير العادية والسكان الأصليين بها. ففي محاولة من جانب صناعة السياحة لتسويق المغامرة والأصالة للرحالة الذين ملوا الحضارة تعمل السياحة الإيكولوجية على ترويج السفر إلى البيئات الخالية من التكنولوجيا الحديثة. إلا أن السياحة الإيكولوجية تنطوي بذلك على تناقض جوهري كامن بها وهو ترويجها للأراضي البكر، فلا تعود بكرا كما كانت.
