منطقة عند مصب النهر يتسع عرضها باتجاه البحر حيث يختلط الماء العذب بماء البحر ليكون ماءا أجاجا (قليل الملوحة). وتتسم بيئة مصاب الأنهار بثرائها بالحياة البرية، خاصة المائية منها، لكنها شديدة الهشاشة أمام الضرر الناجم عن الأنشطة البشرية.
