Through this Act, the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries may provide cessation subsidy to farm owners and tenants of agricultural activities. Cessation Subsidy is applicable to persons ceasing farming and horticultural activities in the period between 1 January 1994 and 31 December 1998. The applicants granted this support must be aged between 55 and 66, have had agriculture as main occupation during a preceding period of 10 years, and have ceased all commercial farming and horticultural activities.

The Act does not apply to Greenland nor the Faroe Islands.
