The Act serves as the legal framework for the monitoring of food, feed, cosmetics and other consumer goods in accordance with the German Food and Feed Code. The Act establishes monitoring authorities whose task is to ensure compliance with national and EU food safety legislation. These authorities are authorized to carry out inspections, issue the necessary orders to remedy or prevent violations and cooperate with the Berlin-Brandenburg state laboratory for laboratory analyses. The training and further training of veterinarians and food inspectors is prescribed. In addition, the AGLFGB contains sanction provisions that classify violations as administrative offenses, which can be punished with fines.
