The Order applies to the slaughter and killing of animals bred or kept for the production of food, wool, skin, fur and other products (including horses, dogs and cats) and sets regulations with regard to ethics and animal welfare, including killings for religious ritual purposes. Anaestetics must be given to cattle, sheeps and goats prior to their killing. For poultry, slaughtering is preceded with water / drowning. Slaughtering according to religious rites shall be regulated by this document, whereby duty to notify (electronically) the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration prior to action in adherence to Order No. 1302.
The Order consists of 5 Chapters: Scope and definitions (1); General provisions (2); Slaughtering and killing externally from slaughterhouses (3); Slaughtering for religious rituals (4); Penalties and entry into force (5).
