The present Act contains provisions concerning the Natural Resources Institute. The Institute's purpose is to promote a competitive business sector based on the sustainable use of renewable natural resources, as well as to promote well-being and the vitality of rural areas. It falls under the responsibility of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The Institute shall, within its area of operation: 1) Conduct scientific research and development; 2) Produce information and expert services to support societal decision-making and governmental activities; 3) Transfer knowledge and technology; 4) Compile statistics related to the institute's area of operation, unless this is the responsibility of another authority; 5) Maintain the registers necessary for the institute's activities; 6) Handle tasks related to preserving the diversity of genetic resources; 7) Promote international cooperation; 8) Perform other tasks assigned to the institute by law or by regulations issued under the law; and 9) Carry out the tasks specifically determined by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
