The Act on the Operation of Direct Payment Program for Promoting Public Functions of Fisheries and Fishing Villages provides for direct payment programs aimed at promoting the public functions of fisheries and fishing villages, including resource conservation, environmental protection, community maintenance, and the stabilization of fishers’ incomes. It defines eligible beneficiaries and provides for several types of support, including payments for resource conservation, environmentally friendly production, business transfer by elderly fishers, small-scale fishing households, fishing crew members, and residents of disadvantaged fishing areas.
The Act contains targeted measures for people living in fishing villages and remote coastal communities. It provides direct payments to fishers residing in island areas, areas near the Northern Limit Line, and other locations with unfavorable fishing or settlement conditions. It also supports small-scale fishing households residing in fishing villages, promotes fishing village development through community funds, encourages sustainable fishing practices, and establishes eligibility, compliance, and monitoring mechanisms for public payments.
This is a consolidated version of the Act, wholly amended by Act No. 17331 of 26 May 2020 and most recently amended by Act No. 20527 of 22 October 2024.
