Bangladesh’s Third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) outlines an enhanced climate action framework, integrating mitigation, adaptation, and just transition measures. Total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are projected to rise under a business-as-usual scenario, while the NDC commits to significant reductions in GHG emissions, with additional potential reductions contingent on international support. Mitigation measures focus on energy transition through renewables, energy efficiency, electric mobility, and improved industrial practices, alongside sustainable land use, afforestation, waste-to-energy, and methane management. Agriculture, forestry, and other land use (AFOLU) actions emphasize climate-smart farming, mangrove restoration, and enhanced carbon sinks.
Adaptation priorities include water and coastal management, resilient agriculture, disaster risk reduction, and ecosystem restoration to strengthen climate resilience and address loss and damage. Cross-cutting components embed gender equality, social inclusion, health, and education, while the Just Transition framework ensures equitable low-carbon transformation in key sectors. Implementation will require substantial resources, mobilized through climate finance, carbon markets, private sector participation, technology transfer, and institutional strengthening. NDC 3.0 aligns Bangladesh’s national development pathway with the Paris Agreement and global stocktake goals, demonstrating a strong commitment to low-emission, climate-resilient growth.
