The National Research Program "Development of research identified in the Biodiversity Priority Action Program, Part 1" covers the period of 2024–2026. The Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development is designated as the responsible authority for implementation.
The overall aim of the Program is to generate new knowledge and solutions that help balance nature conservation needs with socio economic interests under changing climate conditions. Its specific objective is to collect and develop data necessary for planning conservation measures in order to achieve a favourable conservation status for species and habitats, as defined in the national legislation. Key tasks include strengthening the knowledge base for EU and national level conservation measures, assessing socio economic and climate change impacts on species and habitats with unfavourable or unknown conservation status, and addressing gaps in ecological knowledge. The Program also sets horizontal tasks focused on interdisciplinary cooperation, stakeholder engagement, education, international research participation, and knowledge transfer.
The total funding for the Program for 2024–2026 amounts to EUR 1.18 million, financed from the state budget allocated to scientific activity, with annual allocations specified for each year. Expected outputs include applied research supporting conservation measures, publication of at least two public reports identifying necessary protection actions, scientific articles in internationally indexed journals, and open access deposition of newly generated research data in line with FAIR principles. The Order also allows the Program’s implementation period to be extended by up to one additional year, without additional funding, if needed to consolidate and disseminate research results.
