This Code establishes provisions related to offences and penalties. It lays down detailed rules as to criminal responsibility, special explanations relating to certain offences, attempts to commit crimes, abatement and conspiracy, general exemptions, justifiable force and harm, punishments in general and special cases, offences against the person and the rights of property, misappropriations and frauds, miscellaneous offences and matters, indictable offences, offences against public order, health and morality, offences relating to public offices, and offences against national financial integrity.
Part V deals with the offences against the rights of property and sets out the penalties for giving damage to cattle and other animals, trees, cultivated plants, fence and to apparatus set to catch turtle or fish; taking or destroying fish in private water; poisoning or using dynamite in river; unlawful possession of cattle or tree; failure to bury or burn the carcasses of cattle dying from disease in accordance with the requirements; selling or offering for sale unwholesome meat, poultry, fish, and beverages; fouling any stream, well, tank, reservoir, or place used or intended for supplying water for human consumption; using illegal fishing nets; failure to take proper precautions before setting fire to any tree, bush etc.; and trespassing on land. Part VIII determines penalties for mischief to property, including but not limited to: arson of crop, damage to cattle, and fraud in sale or mortgage of land. Part IX lays down detailed rules as regards the offences against public order, health and morality, such as corruption under the offences relating to public offices, and selling of unwholesome food and carrying on noxious trade under public nuisances.
