The regulations emphasize strict control, documentation, and safe disposal to mitigate environmental and public health risks associated with asbestos exposure. The regulations prohibit the sale, supply, use, reuse, or recycling of asbestos and asbestos-containing materials. The Minister determines an Asbestos Management Code of Practice, which sets the standards for handling, transporting, and disposing of asbestos waste. All involved parties—transporters, waste facilities, and owners of premises with asbestos—must strictly comply with the code and obtain necessary authorisations from the Secretary. The regulations further impose record-keeping obligations on those handling asbestos waste and require transparency with authorised officers. Providing false or misleading information or failing to maintain or share records also constitutes an offence.
