This Act concerns fire prevention measures and fire management. The Act provides for: appointment of fire marshals and local assistants; duties of fire marshals including: investigating and holding inquiries respecting the cause, origin, extent and circumstances of fires; inspection of property in order to determine whether precautions against fire and the spread of fire are adequate and satisfactorily maintained; reviewing plans and specifications for the construction, alteration or repair of structures to take proper precautions against fire and the spread of fire; advising and making recommendations to the Minister with respect to: the necessary organisation and equipment of fire departments and the establishment of training programmes for fire-fighters, the provision of adequate water supply for fire-fighting purposes, the storage, use, sale or disposal of combustibles, explosives or other flammable material, the construction and maintenance of fire-escapes and other exit facilities in the event of fire or the alarm of fire, fire prevention precautions in the construction of any structure or property. Further matters covered by this Act include: review of plans; investigation, injuries and reporting of fires; statement of fire insurance company; measures to prevent fire hazards: inspection of structures and premises, dangerous appliances, electrical hazards, danger to public safety; offences and punishment.
