This Ordinance establishes an extraordinary veterinary border surveillance regime in Austria to prevent the introduction of foot-and-mouth disease into the national territory. It authorises district administrative authorities to carry out official controls on vehicles entering Austria from specified States where animals of listed susceptible species may be transported, in accordance with relevant EU animal health legislation. The measures include stopping transport vehicles, verifying compliance with animal movement requirements, checking documentation, conducting clinical examinations, and taking samples for laboratory testing. The Ordinance also sets out the powers of competent authorities, the duty of cooperation of other public bodies and transport operators.
