On the recommendation o f the Bureau and following a request from the Peruvian authorities, the Committee also decided to inscribe Chan Chan archaeological zone on the List of World Heritage in Danger. In so doing, the Committee recommended that appropriate measures be taken for the conservation, restoration and management of the site and specifically that the excavation work on the site be halted unless it was accompanied by appropriate conservation measures and that all possible steps be taken to control the plundering of the site.
