Referred to by various labels, including regulations, statutory rules, decrees, and sub-decrees made under primary legislation (i.e. Act, Law, Statute). It is also known as subsidiary, subordinate or secondary legislation, and can also include by-laws. It is made by the executive, such as a minister, other office holder or government department, using power given to them in an existing Act/Law/Statute. The scope of delegated legislation is always limited to the scope of the Act/Law/Statute itself. Delegated legislation enables governments to make changes and refinements to the existing law. It has the same legal force as the Act/Law/Statute under which it is made.
