Definition(s)

The body established under an international agreement to arrange and service the meetings of the governing body of that agreement, and assist Parties in coordinating implementation of the agreement. The secretariat also performs other functions as assigned to it by the agreement and the decisions of the governing body. (Source: Glossary of Terms for Negotiators of MEAs, 2007)
