Legislative Decree No. 267 implementing Directives 1999/74/EC and 2002/4/EC concerning the protection of laying hens and the registration of establishments keeping laying hens.

In implementation of Directive 1999/74/EC, this Legislative Decree lays down minimum standards aimed at the protection of laying hens. The owners and holders of laying hens shall fulfill the obligations established in Annex A as well as Annexes B, C and D according to the systems deployed (alternative systems, unenriched cage systems and enriched cages). As from the date of entry into force of this Decree, the construction or operation for the first time of the cages referred to in point 1 of Annex C shall be forbidden. Pursuant to Directive 2002/4/EC, article 4 deals with the registration of establishments engaged in the keeping of laying hens. Article 5 concerns inspection, whilst article 7 lays down administrative sanctions.
