The Tiergesundheitsberufegesetz (TGBG), enacted on 20 November 2008 in Liechtenstein, regulates the practice of veterinarians and other animal health professionals, including animal healers, physiotherapists, and homeopaths. It mandates that individuals wishing to practice these professions obtain authorization from the Office for Food Control and Veterinary Affairs. Applicants must provide proof of nationality, professional qualifications, a clean criminal record, medical fitness, professional liability insurance, and sufficient German language proficiency. Additionally, they must demonstrate appropriate facilities and equipment for their practice. This legislation aligns with the European Directive 2005/36/EC on the recognition of professional qualifications. The TGBG also facilitates the temporary or occasional cross-border provision of veterinary services by professionals from European Economic Area countries and Switzerland, provided they are legally established in their home countries. Such professionals must notify the Office for Food Control and Veterinary Affairs before commencing services in Liechtenstein and renew this notification annually if they intend to continue providing services.
