This Act amends the Consumer Protection Act 2024 by introducing a new Section 74 establishing an exemption mechanism. Under the new provision, the Minister, in consultation with the Cabinet, may exempt specified persons or activities, or classes thereof, from the application of any or all provisions of the Act, or modify the Act’s application to them. Such determinations may only be made where the Cabinet is satisfied that the relevant person or activity is regulated under anti-competition legislation and supervised by competent authorities of another country. The Act also makes consequential renumbering amendments to existing sections and enters into force upon certification by the Speaker.
