This Act makes provision for the import and export of goods. The Ministry of Trade, Industries and Labour is the responsible authority under the Act.
The Act provides for import duties that shall be paid to the Government of the Maldives on all goods imported into the Maldives as specified in the text. Export duties will not be levied on the export of items naturally formed and produced in the Maldives except for ambergris.
The Act further recognizes the power of the President to waive payment of import duty to the Government as provided for in the text. Offences and penalties are contained in the Act.
