This Regulation determines the measures to combat the outbreak of African swine fever, the competence of persons and institutions, the rules and procedure for the notification and execution of orders, restrictions on the transportation of swine, handling of products of swine origin, by-products of swine origin, including carcasses, cleaning of affected objects and vehicles and disinfection procedures. Supervision and control is performed by: (a) the Food and Veterinary Service in cooperation with the State Forestry Service, if a case of African swine fever has been confirmed or is classified as a suspected case of wild pigs contracting African swine fever; and (b) the Food and Veterinary Service if a case of African swine fever has been confirmed or is classified as a suspected case of African swine fever in kept pigs. The operator keeping pigs is obliged to ensure: (a) post-mortem examination and patho-anatomical section of pig carcasses older than 60 days; and (b) weekly sampling for virological examinations to confirm or deny the causative agent of African swine fever from not less than two dead pigs or two piglets aged 60 days in each epidemiological unit. The finder of the carcass of a wild pig shall immediately, using any form of communication, report the found carcass to the municipality in whose administrative territory the pig carcass was found, to the Food and Veterinary Service or to the State Forestry Service. Hunter after hunting a wild boar: (a) acts in accordance with the regulatory enactments on the set of biosecurity measures in hunting; and (b) takes a sample and sends it for laboratory investigation to the institute BIOR in accordance with the order published in the official publication Latvijas Vēstnesis in order to confirm or deny the presence of the agent of African swine fever.
