The United Nations Environment Assembly, 

Recalling decision SS.IV/1 of 18 June 1994 of the Governing Council of the United Nations Environment Programme on the adoption of the Instrument for the Establishment of the Restructured Global Environment Facility,

Recalling also the approval, in May 2014, by the Fifth Assembly of the Global Environment Facility of a number of amendments to the Instrument, which were adopted by the United Nations Environment Assembly at its first session in its resolution 1/17 of 27 June 2014, 

Acknowledging the need for inclusivity, transparency, accountability and responsiveness with regard to the projects and programmes that the Global Environmental Facility is financing worldwide, taking into account the eligibility criteria, 

Taking note of the report of the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme on amendments to the Instrument for the Establishment of the Restructured Global Environment Facility,

1. Adopts, in accordance with the procedure set out in paragraph 34 of the Instrument, the amended text of the Instrument,3 as referred to in the note by the secretariat transmitting information supplementary to the report of the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme,4 in the light of the decision adopted by the Seventh Assembly of the Global Environment Facility, in August 2023, by which it approved the amended text of the Instrument; 

2. Requests the Executive Director, in accordance with the mandate and medium-term strategy of the United Nations Environment Programme, agreed on by the United Nations Environment Assembly, to continue to consider ways of enhancing the capacity of the Programme, as the leading global environmental authority, in order to continue to strengthen its role as an implementing agency of the Global Environment Facility; 

3. Also requests the Executive Director to transmit the present resolution to the Chief Executive Officer and Chairperson of the Global Environment Facility.
