The purpose of the Forest Law is to regulate reforestation, protection and use and to form the legal preconditions for the management of all ownership type forests upon equal sustainable forestry principles, ensuring a rational use of the forest resources by supplying with the industrial material, preservation of the biodiversity, increase of forest productivity, landscape stability and environment quality possibility to perform the ecological, economical and social functions without inflicting damage to other ecosystems. The Law consists of 7 Chapters that contain 25 articles. Chapter 1 lays down the general provisions. Chapter 2 regards forest use. Chapter 3 deals with state forest cadastre of the Republic of Lithuania and forest management project. Chapter 4 concerns reforestation, growing and cutting. Chapter 5 regards forest protection. Chapter 6 establishes liability for infringements of the forest law. Chapter 7 regards international cooperation of the Republic of Lithuania in the forestry.
