This Regulation provides all necessary conditions and measures to be implemented in order to establish a sustainable , animal safe and friendly practices when dealing with zoos and/or similar (opening and/or working of zoos) in order to offer the mandatory animal protection (animal welfare).
The general objectives of this Regulation is to protect wild fauna and to conserve biodiversity on the territory of the Croatian Republic and other states members of the European Union.
Zoological Gardens (zoos) also includes: safari parks; dolphinariums; bird parks; aquariums; terrariums; and animal collections open to the public.
This Regulation shall not apply to: temporary exhibitions of animals; specific facilities for animals; shops for pets sale; aquariums and terrariums serving as decoration; circuses with live animals; and collections of animals that are not open to the public (if located on the Croatian territory).
