The purpose of the present Act is to maintain an efficient agriculture and forestry which takes account of the social order, the ecological sustainability and regional harmony, as well as the mountainous areas and other disadvantaged zones. Production, processing and marketing has to be market-oriented, and the productivity of agriculture increased by structural measures. A special effort shall be made to protect the environment from harmful effects. To achieve such objectives financial agricultural measures such as direct payments are provided for; in particular, for mountainous areas and other disadvantaged areas. Article 7 establishes that the Federal Minister for Agriculture and Forestry is going to set up a commission for this purpose. Furthermore, article 9 establishes that having monitored the work of the Commission, the Federal Minister is to prepare a special report to the Federal Government about the development of agriculture. The Federal Minister can avail himself of private bodies. The text consists of 11 articles.
