This Act provides rules relative to the prospecting and exploitation of mineral resources of Jamaica and related activities and rights. The Act shall not apply to the prospecting or exploitation of mineral oil.
The Governor-General may appoint a Commissioner of Mines. The Act excludes certain lands from prospecting or mining and provides for compensation of owners or occupiers of land. Land under a mining lease may be required for public purposes. Rights for prospecting of mining shall be granted by the Commissioner or, in the case of special rights, by the Minister.
