This Regulation sets the minimum requirements and conditions for live animals breeding in zoos and centers for animal breeding, including rules regarding the breeding of protected animal species.
The provisions of this Regulation are aimed to set the regime that meets the natural and original biological and conservation conditions for each animal specie (as listed in the Annex published among this text), including several animal habitat and physiological requirements, and general welfare principles to be respected by all participants/operators handling breeding animals (here for zoos and other facilities).
These requirements and conditions will not apply to sick and injured animals, for which a veterinarian has set other specific animal health and sanitary requirements and procedures.
