多氯联苯是一组通过用氯取代联苯分子上的氢原子制成的人造有机化合物。由于多氯联苯耐酸碱和耐热，因此通常用作变压器和电容器等电气设备中的绝缘材料以及热转换液和润滑剂。其他用途包括：润滑剂、荧光灯镇流器、油漆、胶水、蜡纸、无碳复写纸、油墨（包括报纸）、土路防尘剂、喷洒杀虫剂的溶剂和切削油。多氯联苯是稳定化合物，虽然不再生产，但持久性很强，在大气和填埋场中仍大量存在。它们不溶于水，进入食物链后漂浮在水面上。多氯联苯是脂溶性的，因此很容易摄入，但很难排出。（来源：根据多语种通用环境词库-PZ / PHC起草）
