يحدد التصديق الإجراء الدولي الذي تشير بموجبه دولةٌ ما إلى موافقتها على الالتزام بمعاهدة في حال اعتزمت الأطراف إبداء موافقتها عن طريق إجراء من هذا القبيل. وفي حالة المعاهدات الثنائية يتحقق التصديق عادةً بتبادل الصكوك اللازمة، بينما في حالة المعاهدات المتعددة الأطراف يكون الإجراء المعتاد هو أن يجمع الوديع تصديقات جميع الدول، مع إبقاء جميع الأطراف على علم بالوضع. وتمنح المؤسسة المعنية بالتصديق الدول الإطار الزمني اللازم للحصول على الموافقة اللازمة على المعاهدة على الصعيد المحلي، وسن التشريعات اللازمة لتفعيل تلك المعاهدة على الصعيد المحلي.
