This Act makes provision for the public control of the exportation of agricultural produce, i.e. meat or any product thereof, milk products, eggs or margarine or butter substitutes and any other article produced or derived from farming operations that the Minister, by notice in the Gazette, declares to be agricultural produce for the purposes of this Act.
The Act grants, in section 10, power to the Minister responsible for agriculture to make rules relative to specific agricultural produce. Where such Rules exist, no person shall export any agricultural produce for which Rules are made unless and until such produce has been inspected, or inspected and branded, in a manner prescribed by such Rules (sect. 3). The Act further prohibits the exportation of unsound agricultural produce as defined in section 5, provides for the approval and registration of slaughterhouses and dairy production premises, regulates storage and transport of produce, introduces measures of enforcement such as the seizure and destruction of diseased animals, of agricultural produce intended for export and defines offences and prescribes penalties.
