This Regulation lays down provisions relating to the marketing of eggs within the Community. Such provisions, however, shall not apply to eggs sold directly to the consumer for his own use by the producer on his farm, in a local public market or by door-to-door selling, as long as the eggs come from his own production (art. 2). Article 1 contains the definition of different kinds of eggs. They shall be graded by quality as follows: a) class A or “fresh eggs”; b) class B or “second quality or preserved eggs”; c) class C or “down-graded eggs intended for the food industry”. Articles 7 and 8 specify the different distinguishing marks that may be stamped on the different classes of eggs. Articles 10 to 14 make provision in matter of packaging and labelling. Article 15 establishes the conditions under which eggs from third countries may be imported for free circulation in the Community.
