This Act makes provision for the control of ports and provides rules relative to the administration and operation of ports and related matters.
The Minister shall appoint a Port Controller and Deputy Port Controllers in the Port Department and the Governor-General may declare port areas for purposes of this Act and appoint port authorities for such areas. The Act sets out powers and duties of the Port Controller, port authorities and harbour masters. The Act further sets out rules relative to port activities including pilotage.

Consolidated version of Act No. 14 of 1962 as at 31 December as authorized by last LRO 1/2006 and amended last by Act No. 8 of 2003.This Act has been amended by the Port Authorities Act (Amendment to Third Schedule) Order, 2013 in the Third Schedule.
