This Act, consisting of 157 sections divided into ten Parts and completed by seven Schedules, concerns the protection of threatened species in the territory of New South Wales. The Act provides for the identification and classification of threatened species, for their protection and for the protection of their habitats. For the purpose of implementing its provisions, the Act establishes a Scientific Committee, defines its functions and regulates its operation. It is divided into the following parts: Preliminary; Listing of threatened species, populations and ecological communities and key threatening processes; Critical habitat of endangered species, populations and ecological communities; Recovery plans for threatened species, populations and ecological communities; Threat abatement plans to manage key threatening processes; Licensing; Other conservation measures; Scientific Committee; Biological Diversity Strategy and Miscellaneous. The Act is completed by four schedules: Endangered species, populations and ecological communities; Vulnerable species and ecological communities; Key threatening processes and Savings, transitional and other provisions.
