The Federal Republic of Germany undertakes statistics in the following areas: land use, livestock, structural surveys in agricultural and forestry companies, harvesting, poultry, slaughter and slaughter weight, milk, fishing and aquaculture, wine, wood, and fertilizers. The data pertaining to each individual area is specified in the various sub-section. Generally applicable to all sub-sections are survey measurement units, auxiliary features and classifying definitions of an agricultural enterprise. Ministries which are entitled to commence statistics are determined according to individual expertise. Transmission, use and publication of individual statistics are specified and generally allowed under this Act. In the 2026 revision of the Gesetz über Agrarstatistiken (Agrarstatistikgesetz – AgrStatG), several substantive changes were introduced to modernize the law and align it with updated EU statistical requirements. Further adjustments include renaming and reorganizing parts of the law (e.g., clarifying how land use data are collected), expanding and detailing statistical units and reporting periods, and updating provisions on survey content and use of administrative registers to reduce burden on farm respondents and improve data quality.
Consolidated version of the Act as of 11 January 2026 (BGBl. 2026 I Nr. 8).
