This Act sets out the objectives of agricultural policy and regulates provisions governing planning agricultural and rural development, agricultural policy measures, the safety of food of plant origin in primary production, food quality at all stages of production, processing and transport, and consumer protection. This Act provides also details on the labeling of agricultural products and foodstuffs, the marketing of agricultural products and foodstuffs, conservation of biodiversity in agriculture, supplementary activities on farms, databases and information on agriculture, and procedures and bodies involved in the implementation of this Act. The objectives of agricultural policy in Slovenia are: (a) stable production of safe, high quality and cheaper food as well as ensuring food security; (b) preservation of the settlement and cultivation of the countryside and landscape; (c) long-term preservation of fertility of agricultural land; (d) protection of agricultural land from pollution and irrational use and improvement of resources for sustainable food production; (e) continuous increasing of competitiveness of agriculture; (f) adequate income level; (g) implementation of the principles of environmental protection and nature conservation and preservation of genetic resources. This Act is composed of 35 articles divided into the following Sections: General provisions (Sec. 1); Feed (Sec. 2); Plants (Sec. 3); Conformity assessment (Sec. 4); Official control (Sec. 5); Finance program (Sec. 6); Liabilities (Sec. 7); Penalty provisions (Sec. 8); Transitional and final provisions (Sec. 9).
